How to get there and what to expect?
As we already extensively traveled through many countries in Asia, Vietnam was still on our bucket list – especially the south of Vietnam. More precisely the area of Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) and the Mekong Delta.
There are several ways to travel to Vietnam, depending on where you are coming from and what mode of transportation you prefer. Here are a few options:
Fly: Vietnam has several international airports, including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and Nha Trang. You can fly to one of these airports from many major cities around the world.
Land: Vietnam shares borders with China, Laos, and Cambodia, so you can also enter the country by land. Keep in mind that you will need to obtain the appropriate visas and travel documents in advance.
Cruise: Some cruise lines offer itineraries that include stops in Vietnam. This can be a convenient way to see multiple destinations in the region.
When traveling to Vietnam, one can expect to experience a rich culture, delicious food, and beautiful landscapes. Vietnam has a long history, and there are many historical sites and landmarks to visit, such as the ancient city of Hoi An and the Imperial Citadel of Hue. The country is also home to several UNESCO World Heritage sites, including the complex of Hue Monuments and Ha Long Bay. The food in Vietnam is known for being flavorful and diverse, with a mix of influences from China, France, and other Southeast Asian countries. Visitors can expect to find a wide variety of dishes, such as pho noodle soup, banh mi sandwiches, and spring rolls. In terms of natural beauty, Vietnam has a lot to offer, from the rice paddies of the Mekong Delta to the rugged mountains of the north.
There are also many opportunities for outdoor activities, such as hiking, biking, and kayaking. Overall, Vietnam is a fascinating and diverse country with much to explore and discover.
Ho Chi Minh City
Ho Chi Minh City, also known as Saigon, is a vibrant and bustling city that is a must-visit destination for any couple looking to experience the culture and history of Vietnam.
As soon as we arrived in the city, we were struck by the energy and excitement that seemed to fill the streets. The city is a melting pot of cultures, with a mix of traditional Vietnamese architecture and modern skyscrapers. The streets are lined with street vendors selling delicious local food, as well as shops and markets selling everything from traditional handicrafts to designer clothing.
One of the highlights of our visit to Ho Chi Minh City was visiting the War Remnants Museum. This powerful museum provides a sobering look at the Vietnam War and its impact on the country and its people. The museum is filled with artifacts, photographs, and personal stories that offer a unique and personal perspective on the war. It was a very emotional experience for both of us, but we felt that it was important to understand this part of the country’s history.
Another highlight of our trip was visiting the famous Notre-Dame Cathedral. This stunning French colonial-style cathedral is a beautiful example of the city’s rich history and cultural diversity. The cathedral is located in the heart of the city and is surrounded by charming streets filled with shops and cafes. We loved wandering around the area and exploring the local street life.
One of the most memorable experiences for us was a visit to the Cu Chi Tunnels. These tunnels were used by the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War and offer a fascinating glimpse into the ingenuity and determination of the Vietnamese people. The tunnels are narrow and claustrophobic, but it was an incredible experience to crawl through them and imagine what it must have been like to live underground during the war.
Finally, we spent some time exploring the vibrant streets of Ho Chi Minh City, shopping for souvenirs and trying out the local food. We loved the street food in Vietnam, and Ho Chi Minh City was no exception. We tried everything from traditional Pho noodle soup to banh mi sandwiches and fresh spring rolls. The food was delicious and a highlight of the trip.
Overall, our trip to Ho Chi Minh City was an unforgettable experience. The city is a vibrant and exciting destination that offers a glimpse into the rich culture and history of Vietnam. As a couple, we loved exploring the city together and creating memories that we will cherish forever.
We highly recommend Ho Chi Minh City as a travel destination for any couple looking for an adventure.

Mekong Delta
Travelling from Saigon, we had the opportunity to explore the Mekong Delta in Vietnam and take a boat tour with Mekong Eyes. The Mekong Delta is a vast and fertile region that is known for its beautiful landscapes, rich culture, and delicious food.
We started our journey in the bustling city of Can Tho, where we boarded the Mekong Eyes boat. The boat was a traditional wooden vessel that had been converted into a luxury cruise ship. As we set sail, we were struck by the beauty of the surrounding landscapes. The Mekong River is surrounded by lush green rice paddies, and we passed by small villages and floating markets.
One of the highlights of the boat tour was visiting a traditional floating market. We were able to witness the locals trading their goods on boats and it was a truly unique experience. We also had the opportunity to explore the local lifestyle and culture of the Mekong Delta. We were able to visit a traditional farm, where we learned about how the locals grow rice and other crops.
Another highlight was visiting a local home, where we were welcomed by a local family. They showed us around their home and shared with us their traditional way of life. We were able to taste some delicious local food and learn about their customs and traditions. It was a very intimate and authentic experience that we will always remember.
The boat tour also included many other activities such as visiting a local pagoda, taking a bike ride through the countryside, and even a sunset cruise. The boat tour was well-organized and the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. They made sure that we had everything we needed and helped us make the most of our time in the Mekong Delta.
Finally, the boat tour ended with an overnight stay on the boat itself. The boat was equipped with comfortable cabins, and it was a unique experience to spend the night on the river. It was a perfect way to end our trip and we felt like we had truly immersed ourselves in the local culture.
